Annual Veterans Day Observance November 11, 2022

 

WOONSOCKET, R.I Mayor Daniel M. Gendron along with the United Veterans Council of Woonsocket announces the annual Veterans Day Observance that will be held on Friday, November 11, 2022, at the United Veterans Armed Forces Park on Davison Avenue at 11 o’clock a.m. Participants will include Veterans organizations, city and state officials, the Woonsocket Police and Woonsocket Fire Department Honor Guards & the Woonsocket High School Band.

Mayor Gendron said "Please join us on November 11th as we honor our veterans who have honorably served our country and their sacrifices have ultimately given us the freedoms which as Americans is the foundation of our democracy. We continue to honor them not only today, but every day"

There is limited seating available so please feel free to bring a chair. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held at the Museum of Work & Culture 42 South Main Street. Announcement of the venue change will be made on local AM radio stations WNRI and WOON. WOON radio will also broadcast this event live.

 

Americans aren't feeling very optimistic about the country ahead of President Biden's State of the Union address next week. That's according to a new Gallup survey that shows a majority of Americans only have a positive view on two things: the overall quality of life and the opportunity for a person to get ahead by working hard. This, as there was a six point decline when it came to how satisfied people were about the way income and wealth are distributed in the U.S.       Texas is seeing flight delays and power outages as winter weather continues to hit the state. Dallas-Fort Worth International, Dallas Love Field, and Austin-Bergstrom are all dealing with numerous flight delays and cancelations. Meanwhile, more than 400-thousand Texans are without power due to the winter storm that has hit the Lone Star State.       Gas prices are down a penny from yesterday. Triple-A puts today's nationwide average at three-49 a gallon. Prices at the pump are highest in Hawaii, at four-93.       A suspected school shooter in Texas is still being declared incompetent to stand trial. A judge will sign an order to keep the suspect in the hospital for up to another year. The defendant is accused of killing eight classmates and two teachers and wounding several others at Santa Fe High School in 2018.       Anti-corruption raids are being carried out in Ukraine as it prepares for European Union leaders to visit. The raids occurred Wednesday right after Ukrainian President Zelensky said he would soon make more personnel changes in his government after a series of official dismissals last month. Meanwhile, intense fighting continues in the east of the country.       Dr. Pepper fans have a new flavor to try. The brand recently debuted Dr Pepper Strawberries & Cream. It comes in regular and zero sugar and will also join the brand's permanent beverage lineup.
