Please be advised, crews will be working on the water main on Canal Street (from St. Paul Street to Bridge Street) Wednesday, September 28 through Friday, September 30, 2022.  

 

The street will be closed to traffic from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM. Please note that the entrance to the Blackstone River Greenway will not be accessible during these hours.

The number of shoppers in store and online this Black Friday weekend is hitting a record high. The National Retail Federation says close to 200-million went shopping from Thanksgiving Day to Cyber Monday. That's up from 179-million last year.        The Senate is passing a landmark same-sex marriage bill. The Respect for Marriage Act was passed on Tuesday afternoon, when 12 Republican senators voted along with Democrats to advance the bill, which recognizes gay marriage nationwide. The bill was first introduced after the Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade in June, essentially ending the constitutional right to abortion.        Former Trump adviser Stephen Miller is testifying to a federal grand jury as part of the January 6th investigation. CNN reported Miller was at a federal courthouse in Washington, DC for several hours on Tuesday, along with lead prosecutor Thomas Windom. Miller is the first known witness to testify since the DOJ appointed a special counsel to oversee investigations around former President Trump.        Bank of America's CEO admits it's tough to buy a home right now in an age of rising interest rates. Speaking to CNN, Brian Moynihan said rate hikes are designed to slow down inflation and the economy. However, he said that "doesn't feel good when you are trying to buy a home."        New York City is outlining plans to connect people experiencing mental illness with treatment. On Tuesday, Mayor Eric Adams issued a directive to city agencies and first responders, clarifying they have the legal authority to transfer someone to a hospital when mental illness prevents them from meeting their own basic needs. In addition, the city is setting up a hotline so trained clinicians can help officers determine if someone needs further treatment.        A new top four has been revealed in the latest edition of the College Football Playoff rankings. Georgia maintained its spot as the top-ranked team in the nation, with Michigan climbing to Number-2 after last week's impressive win over Ohio State. TCU rose to Number-3, while USC was the newcomer at the fourth and final spot in the Playoff.
