Hurricane Ian could generate "catastrophic storm surge" up to 16 feet when it makes landfall on the Florida Gulf Coast later today. The National Hurricane Center says Ian now has maximum sustained winds of 155 miles an hour, just two miles an hour short of Category 5 strength. The storm is already causing what emergency officials are calling "historic flooding" in the Florida Keys.       Hurricane Ian is forcing the cancelation of hundreds of flights as it bears down on the Florida Gulf Coast. More than 17-hundred flights have been canceled at five Florida airports. Orlando International Airport is the hardest hit, with 313 departing flights and 385 arriving flights canceled today.       A new bill in the House would bar lawmakers and judges from trading stocks. The bill House Democrats introduced on Tuesday would apply to members of Congress, federal judges, Supreme Court justices, the President, and other government officials. They wouldn't be allowed to trade or own investments in securities, commodities, futures, cryptocurrency, or other digital assets.       The U.S. and its NATO allies are running short on the weapons and ammunition they've been providing Ukraine for its war against Russian forces. During last week's U.N. General Assembly, NATO Secretary General Jens [[ yens ]] Stoltenberg said NATO member states need to re-invest and increase production of weapons and ammunition.       The U.S. embassy in Moscow is urging Americans to leave the country. The embassy issued a security alert today warning Americans that Russia might stop U.S. citizens from leaving after President Vladimir Putin ordered a call-up of 300-thousand reservists to fight in Ukraine. The embassy also warned that those with dual U.S. and Russian citizenship might be drafted into military service.       A new report claims half of the world's bird species are in decline. The global organization BirdLife International has released its State of the World's Birds report. It warns 49-percent of bird species worldwide are declining and one-in-eight are threatened with extinction.
